Youth Sustaining Peace
A paid Workshop Series for Youth ages 12-18 to learn about Sustainability and Leading Change in their Community
Youth Sustaining Peace is a 4-day workshop series that educates and empowers young people to speak up about environmental sustainability. This free program aims to uplift youth as leaders in creating more sustainable communities.
Youth will receive stipends, certificates, & sustainable swag for completing the program. Select applicants may receive additional media training while working on a short video documenting the workshop series. Youth Sustaining Peace is a collaboration between Oakland Peace Center and Resilience Birthright with support from the Northern California Recycling Association.
Program Overview
WHO:
Youth (ages 12-18) in Alameda County who are interested in sustainability and community advocacy/leadership
WHEN:
This workshop takes place across 4 afternoon sessions on Saturdays in June. Each session is about 4 hours, from 10am to 2pm with a break for lunch which will be provided.
June 7: Intro to Zero Waste, Reusables & Litter Prevention
June 14: Composting & Food Systems
June 21: Community Action & Outreach
June 28: Youth Presentations, Awards, & Celebration
WHERE:
Oakland Peace Center, 111 Fairmount Ave., Oakland, CA 94611
WHY:
To support a more peaceful future where all have access to clean air, water, and healthy foods, youth must be empowered to lead change in our communities and systems.
Youth will receive stipends (up to $250), certificates, & sustainable swag for completing the program. Select applicants will receive additional media training to produce a short film.
